you are the beauty

song selection: underwood

my daughter did a beautiful dance to one of  the songs from the album, in a time lapse by ludovico einaudi. i was immediately drawn in. the entire album is so beautiful and deliberate. i close my eyes and listen. it takes me to the most beautiful space in time… enjoy

a few years ago i was really frustrated with working in Jamaica, because it felt really difficult to get the elements i wanted. i kept looking at “the other side” in the US where they had everything they needed at their fingertips. i was in a comparison game and it exhausted me, and worse, it really demotivated me. i kept on thinking, but if i was in the US, or really, just about anywhere but here, imagine “the things i could do”. somehow, despite the amazing feedback, it meant little to me, i was consumed with all i thought i was being deprived of by working in Jamaica. i was consumed with being what i’d now call, falsely grateful, grateful but with reservations, careful to say “it’s not that i am ungrateful, but….”

then one day God laid this on me: look at your hands, everything you need is there, search your mind, everything you need is there, look within, you are the beauty you need to bring out… fearfully and wonderfully made we are… God said ”let us make man in our image, to be like us” {genesis 1 v 26} that’s me, and that’s you. too. is there any higher state of being than that? if we accept that, doesn’t that mean then, that where-ever we are, then boundless beauty and perfection are already in-waiting. waiting for our agreement to bring it forth.

so in that moment i had new perspective. and ultimately it shifted, to not looking around, but instead, tapping into God as my source, diving into my self, to really bring forth this gift. the starting point being: if i believe God is who He says He is, then i can take Him at His word…

but first that meant i had to tackle “look within, you are the beauty you need to bring out”. trusting my own beauty as the well-spring of every beautiful thing or experience i would bring forth. and that, for me, was a mountain to climb. one i’m still climbing in different ways everyday, though i’m nearing the top. and if you think about, it makes perfect sense, your life-view, which largely is shaped by how you view yourself, is the base of everything you think, do and say, so we do have to change that first.

and when i did, everything changed..

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

-Marianne Williamson-

a lifetime ago, these words were up on the wall of my new bedroom 2000 miles away from everything i knew as home, helping me to muster the courage to face the new phase of my life.

fast forward to 15 years later, someone i knew, slipped me these then forgotten words in a handwritten note, after a women’s ministry meeting. she said she didn’t know what it would mean to me, but this is for me.

one year later, after that moment with God, i finally took them to heart…..

i pray you will take them to heart. i pray this touches you and nudges you to look in and at yourself  to see the beauty you are. or if you are a few steps ahead, i hope it causes you to revel in that knowing one more time! *smile*

thanks for being here! till next time… have a beautiful day!

p.s. please share your thoughts with me in the comments below. i would love to hear your experiences with seeing yourself as the beautiful soul you were created. and of course, if there is someone you know who would be blessed by this please share with them. thank you.

Love this! It resonated so much with me. Every time I create I pray and ask God to give me even a drop of his divine creativity. He is the potter and we are the Clay. May his light shine and creativity shine through us. We are His vessels.
